Miami Swim Week

4:08 PM

Old adage says what goes around comes around and the age old saying has rung true for all history of fashion and it rang again last week in Miami. Almost every beachside luxury hotel in south beach was flooded with an array of sassy one pieces, cut out monokinis and pinup style high waisted bikinis. Beach bums have seemed to trade in their Itsy bitsy teeny weeny bikinis in favor of some classic and dare I say, conservative, throwbacks! Models graced the runways in classic retro style high waisted styles that put a spin on the classic style with some fun graphics and prints while V cuts returned to one pieces in full 90s Sports Illistrated style! All of these throwback styles were made modern with the addition of cut outs, crochet embellishing, digital prints, floals, art-deco inspirations and bandeau tops.
But what does this sudden change of taste mean for fashion beyond swimwear? Sure we are seeing classic vintage styles hitting the runways but more importantly, we are seeing more conservative styles. Women are reverting back from risqué and revealing trends in favor of more ladylike looks. This is proof that our interests are changing and this is true all across the board. We are no longer interested in socialites, reality television, and Swarovski studded blackberries. We are interested in more intellectual topics with hits such as Mad Men, The Great Gatsby, and Les Miserables. The return of such classic pieces tell us that the person of 2013 is reminiscing of a more civilized time. This reminiscing is already trickling down to fashion as we saw at Swim Week. So what's coming back next? We'll have to wait for Spring Ready To Wear to find out!
